Increasing efficiency and transparency for those experiencing the pre-trial system.

The Pre-Trial & the Courts Working Group engages closely with other existing groups to address the challenges of practices and procedures with the goal of increasing efficiency and transparency for those experiencing the system.

This working group aims to:

Share information and explore the implications of reliance on pre-trial systems that undercut the presumption of innocence such as jail confinement, pre-trial electronic monitoring, and plea bargaining that disproportionately disadvantage Black and brown people.

Explore methods of interrupting the cycle of incarceration at this stage of the criminal legal system such as diversion and probation.

Working group members will define additional goals, frameworks, and activities as they meet.
